A powerful exercise I personal do every year, and take my coaching clients and Inner Circle members through, is a very focused centering question:
“Who do I want to be in 3 years and what do I want to be known and/or famous for?”
I truly believe everyone has a unique gifting and the potential to be world-class in specific areas of their lives. But it requires clarity, focus and commitment.
Answering the 3 year question helps us get clear on the direction we should be going.
It also helps us say no to all the things that aren’t in alignment with that vision.
In my podcast interview with long time friend Darren Hardy (the only podcast Darren has said yes to in 5 years) we talked about all the distractions that get 90% of people off their main focus. Same in my interview with Brian Tracy when he said why most people go through life like a plane burning all its fuel on the runway but never taking off.
Being clear on who you are wanting to become and what you want to be known for impacts everything, from your daily to do list, to the books and seminars you decide to invest in, to the people and mentors you choose to get around.
The 3 year question also helps clarify that your goals are worthy of the price you will be paying. Nothing worse than paying a big price for something that isn’t taking you closer to what you want and that will bring fulfillment!
The answer to your 3 year centering question needs to inspire you, challenge you and pull you.
And its okay to not be 100% clear on what that answer is. If you keep asking the question often enough you will find the answer will soon present itself.
