Jay Abraham: Mr. Curious

It was in the late 90’s and I was in southern California visiting and masterminding with my friend (and Co-Author of Chicken Soup for the Entrepreneur’s Soul), Mark Victor Hansen. Mark informed me that he had accepted a dinner invitation on behalf of us both from the famed marketing guru Jay Abraham. I was beyond excited, having been a student of Jay’s work.

It turned out to be a spectacular evening! It was a family affair with Jay’s wonderful wife playing hostess and cooking an extraordinary dinner while his young kids ran around and yet had full access to all the business conversations going on.

That night was the first of many future conversations and correspondence with Jay. If you’ve heard and know Jay, first of all you know he is a brilliant and creative thinker. Unparalleled in many ways. But, in my opinion, the thing that stands out to me the most is Jay’s incredible sense of curiosity!

As Jim Rohn would say he is “fascinated” by everything! Doesn’t matter what the subject is Jay wants to learn. His concentration in not only listening to what you are saying, but eagerly waiting to ask and find out more is exceptional! You feel so important and yet he feels like he is the one that is gaining the most. Why? He truly wants to learn! He is like a kid in his curiosity and question asking!

No wonder Jay has such a depth of thinking and insights into such a variety of topics and specifically business strategies.

I will never forget the graciousness of Jay and his wife that night and all the subsequent conversations with Jay. The invaluable example and lesson he provided was to be the ultimate student! To be beyond curious, to learn and be fascinated in every conversation, meeting and with every person you meet!
