In 1997, I was promoting a Jim Rohn and Mark Victor Hansen 2-day seminar and I had the opportunity to spend some time with John Assaraf. I had been introduced to John by my good friend Mark Victor Hansen who had spoken for John’s ReMax Franchisee organization (at the time 2nd largest in the world). John asked if he could take Jim and I out to dinner, which turned out to be a great time, as we shared stories along with some expensive bottles of wine, late into the night.
Lesson 1: John was so full of vitality, energy and curiosity and despite being the owner of one of the largest Remax franchises in the world, he was committed to continually learning, growing and becoming his very best!
Fast forward to 2001, John releases his book Street Smart Kid where he tells the story of growing up in the bad part of Toronto to being mentored by some very wealthy and influential people. Over the years John and I became good friends as he continued to grow in the personal development as well as the business world, launching multiple companies.
Lesson 2: John had this intense desire to make a difference, not to take success and just enjoy it for himself, but to share it with as many people as possible by venturing into a whole new arena and profession.
Then in 2009, I had sold Jim Rohn Int’l. and Your Success Store companies and he and I had two separate conversations, each about an hour long, where he shared his own experiences of selling his companies and how he took the time to really recharge his batteries, think through his true purpose and what mattered most. Those two conversations played out heavily for me over the next three years as I had time to be “Mr. Mom” to my family and was able to do some incredible things that I had put off for 20 years.
Lesson 3: John provided me with perspective, wisdom and insights on using the unique moment in time to celebrate the success, to take the time off, connect with family, work on health and all the other valuable things in life.
John is a trusted and valued friend. I’ve learned so much from him over the years through his example and insights and am so glad we continue to get together on multiple occasions and support one another.
Bonus Tip: Make lasting friendships and make the most of those times when you can work together, play together, encourage one another and do great things.
John still has that curiosity and eagerness to learn (as I mentioned in lesson 1), he’s the CEO of PraxisNow, a brain-research company that creates some of the most powerful evidence-based brain retraining tools and programs in the world.
John has been researching the brain, and has invited 5 of the leading brain experts in the world to share what they have discovered about success, loving your life and making more income is truly revolutionary.
