If you are an entrepreneur, a millennial or anyone doing business, here are 3 key lessons taught by my mentor and 18 year biz partner Jim Rohn, that will help you navigate the current environment we are in.
Lesson 1 – Jim said to make a great living learn how to be valuable to the marketplace. To become wealthy learn to be valuable to to valuable people. Now he didn’t say network. He said learn to be valuable. When approaching the marketplace and valuable people lead with value and how you can serve and provide something that will be valuable to them
Lesson 2 – Success takes time. The 2 thief’s of success are impatience and greed. Anything worth anything will take time. I see many people buying into courses and programs that promise immediate results. And yes there are tactics you can do that will give you a quick bump. But to build a business, a career, a profession and for you to attract a loyal and supportive customer base it is going to take some time. So in the beginning focus more on building the right way with great products/services, systems and value, knowing results will come. Its the law of the harvest. I always encourage people to think in terms as a farmer planting a vineyard to produce a fine wine. Its going to take some time and some special care, but the results will pay off for many years to come. Be patient and do things right!
Lesson 3 – The only way to get better is to do it. Reading a 100 books on sales does not make you as good a sales person as reading one book and getting out and selling. Same with speaking, writing, marketing or whatever your profession is. Get out of the class room and into the game. Fail forward everyday by being on the field. Yes, be a lifetime student. Read, go to events, have mentors. But make sure that is all in support of real world experience.
And lastly, get started! As we all know when we have been procrastinating on something, it often is as simple as committing to start for 5 minutes. And then often times flow takes over.
Get Started!
The power is always in the doing, not the knowing!
I’m off to LA today for my Inner Circle on Thursday and Mentoring Group on Friday then back to Dallas for our Inner Circle next week.
