Last night I had a call with all our authors from the #1 best selling book I recently published, Resilience, Turning Your Setback Into a Comeback.
There were so many examples shared of how simply sowing one seed (giving away a book, making a phone call, sending an email to a prospect) has the potential to create long term compounding results.
As my 18 year mentor, friend and biz partner Jim Rohn would say, you never know which person may be the one that says yes. Jim tells the story of speaking once to a small group of only 18 people and one of the people in the audience was 17 year old Tony Robbins who soon after, went to work for Jim.
On last night’s call, Olenka Cullinan, a contributing author in Passionistas (a book Erika De La Cruz and I co-created and published) shared how she sent hundreds of emails out to prospects that resulted in selling thousands of books and booking multiple speaking engagements. One of those emails eventually led to Olenka speaking at a 10,000 person event and that positive ripple effect continues today.
Our job is not to predict the outcome but rather to sow good seeds in good places, knowing each one has the potential to be a forest.
Question. If this is true, what keeps us from sowing seeds (sharing our message, putting ourselves out there, etc)?
It can be a variety of things. Fear of rejection or being judged. Under valuing what we have to offer. Lack of confidence. Lack of desire.
Whatever it may be, the cure usually gets back to a question I like to ask people. How much influence and impact do you want to have in the marketplace? Secondly, realize not everyone is going to say yes or like you, but some will. Of those that like you, some will love and refer you.
But you have to go through some no’s to get to the yes’s.
That’s one of the prices of influence and impact.
And the YES’S are all that matter. Don’t build your life and plan around people that are telling you no.
My long time friend Les Brown says “You have to be hungry.”
And hungry begins with having strong reasons and purpose.
Find your why (your reasons) and be willing to put yourself out there. Be ok with no because you are focused on those who will say yes and having an impact and influence in the marketplace.
Lastly, focus on bringing value, consistently over time!
Remember, success is predictable. Sow enough good seeds in good places and great things are bound to happen.
